43169 The National Trust speeds past the site of Uffington loops with the 1A17 12:30 Bristol Temple Meads to Paddington First Great Western service on 18 December 2004. The area of ballast to the right of the train shows where the former loop was located. There were in fact loops on both sides of the line here, but after the re-installation of the relief lines between Wantage Road and Challow in 1994, these shorter loops were considered redundant and were subsequently removed, although as can be seen here, the signal controlling the exit from the up loop remained in situ! |
