A3 4-6-2 4472 Flying Scotsman pulls out of Banbury station on 14 February 1992 with the Didcot to Stratford-upon-Avon 'Valentine Executive' railtour. As Flying Scotsman is allegedly the world's most famous steam locomotive, and therefore presumably has its every move recorded, I found it surprising that it was so difficult to confirm the details of this train. Steam Railway magazine even carried a picture of the tour that ran two days later, incorrectly stating that it was 4472's first train of 1992! As this was very dull weekday (note how few spectators are on the station), as opposed to the sunny Sunday of the following tour, perhaps the mistake can be partially explained. |
