47500 & 47628 Crofton 23 September 1986

There cannot have been many occasions that a pair of GW150 green Class 47s worked a train together, in fact this may be the only one! 47500 Great Western & 47628 Sir Daniel Gooch run alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal at Crofton on 3 September 1986 with the 1C39 11:45 Paddington to Penzance service. The story was that both locos were needed in the West Country for royal train duties. Although this obviously saved a light engine movement, it certainly didn't save on crewing, as both locos would have required drivers, as they are not fitted for multiple working.
