In glorious evening light on 16 June 2011, 47501 Craftsman & 47810 Peter Bath MBE 1927-2006 pass Tackley at high speed with the Northern Belle 1Z64 18:26 Ascot to Manchester Victoria 'Ascot Ladies Day' special. Fortunately the train was running six minutes late at this point. Had it come at the correct time the sun would still have been behind a large black cloud. As is so often the case on a summer's evening, the clouds start to melt away at the end of the day. Although there were still plenty of clouds about (especially in the Oxford direction), there was just the one left where the sun was, and I was extremely glad when the strong wind hastened its departure just a minute or so before the 47s could be heard approaching in the distance. |
