47538 passes the disused station at Aynho on Sunday 5 June 1983 with an unidentified southbound working. The time is 11:50, so the only obvious candidate is a very late running 1O74 09:05 Wolverhampton to Brighton. However, this was composed of Mk2 stock, so it seems unlikely. Any information would be gratefully received. Obviously still in use by a coal merchant and several years before it was converted into a house, the station building seems reasonably intact except for a missing chimney (later replaced). There even appears to be the remains of the up platform nameboard surviving on the grassy bank in the immediate foreground. Note the flyover in the background where the Marylebone line joins the Cherwell Valley route. |
