47538 passes Hinksey Yard on 3 March 1984 with the 1M14 13:07 Paddington to Liverpool Lime Street service, which it would work as far as Birmingham New Street. The loco has clearly worked an important special (Royal?) train during the previous few days, as the silver buffers, white painted wheel rims and bogie pipework do not feature in a picture I have seen of this loco taken a month earlier. What is also interesting about this picture, is how open the view was in the mid 1980s, with an unobstructed view of the delightfully named Spragglesea Mead and Dean's Ham Allotments, Hinksey Lake, and New Hinksey church. |
