A severe shortage of Virgin CrossCountry Class 47/8s on 14 August 1997 resulted in 47540 The Institution of Civil Engineers being borrowed from the DAET railfreight pool. It is seen here approaching Wolvercote Junction with the 1M79 16:47 Reading to Liverpool Lime Street service, which it worked as far as Birmingham New Street. The Dutch civil engineer's livery certainly makes a change from the InterCity livery that was the dominant colour scheme on cross country trains at the time. |
