47543 approaches Yarnton on 10 April 1988 with the 1E63 14:48 Southampton to Newcastle service. The reason for photographing this at what is clearly not a very photogenic location, is that it marks the site of the Buckinghamshire Junction Railway, the so called 'Yarnton Loop' - a former line that connected the Great Western Railway at Yarnton Junction with the LMS Oxford to Bicester line at Oxford Road Junction. This line crossed the Oxford to Banbury line at right angles by means of a bridge, the footings of which can be seen on the right. The line closed in 1965.
