In the 1980s there were numerous special trains run in connection with the Cheltenham Gold Cup Festival, with several loco hauled specials converging on the town on the final Gold Cup Day. On 17 March 1988, 47544 has deposited its train of racegoers at the station, and is pictured accelerating away with the ECS, heading for Cardiff.
