A slightly unusual viewpoint for a railway picture at Oxford. 47545 crosses the Sheepwash Channel as it pulls out of the station with the 1B58 10:50 Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill service on 5 July 1980. The Sheepwash Channel is a short backwater of the River Thames, connecting the main river (just behind the footbridge on which I was standing), with the Castle Mill Stream, which is itself another backwater of the Thames. The brick wall at the end of Abbey Road was partially demolished in 2017, when a car crashed through it, and ended up in the river! |
