As the sun sets on 28 October 1995, 47555 The Commonwealth Spirit runs alongside the Thames Estuary at Chalkwell with the Pathfinder Tours 1Z45 'Pigs Trotter' railtour. The popular footpath runs between the railway and the river all the way from Chalkwell station (which can be seen in the background) to just before Leigh-on-Sea. At this point the tour (which had originated from York) was running as the 14:00 MoD Pig's Bay to Grays, where 47307 & 47309 (just visible on the rear amid the boat masts) would take the train down the Thames Haven branch. Unfortunately the train was running over an hour late, so any chance of a further picture was out of the question. |
