47559 Sir Joshua Reynolds passes Hinksey Yard on 14 June 1983 with the 4M63 03:30 Millbrook to Lawley Street freightliner. There are still a few of the early Freightliner branded boxes on this train, a sight that was rapidly disappearing by the early 1980s. Although of course there was much more freight on the railways in 1983 compared to today, the volume of freightliner traffic was much lower, with coal and stone block loads being the dominant traffic through Oxford, along with some wagonload traffic. 56102 can just be seen in the background, having just arrived with a rake of HAA hoppers, which it would shortly detach from, before heading north, light engine. |
