A perfect late spring evening at the site of Ashbury Crossing, near Shrivenham, on 29 May 1986. 47588 heads west with a lengthy rake of vacuum braked open wagons. This was long before the trackside on the left became a dumping ground for old rails, sleepers, ballast, etc. Note also the last remnant of the previous decade's Dutch elm disease - the dead tree standing out starkly against the fields of oilseed rape. |
