An unexpected bonus at Kingham on 16 October 1983. 47592 County of Avon speeds through the station under a very stormy sky with what is presumably a Worcester Shrub Hill to Oxford ECS. There was certainly no booked passenger train at this time, and half an hour later it was working the 1A79 16:25 Oxford to Paddington. The 1983 working timetable makes no mention of an ECS, so I was extremely lucky to be on the station at the time (over three decades later I can no longer recall why!). For a long time I thought that I had rather messed up this picture, by taking it a little too early. However, it is obvious that if I had taken it just a fraction of a second later, the shadow of the loco would have partly covered the old GWR nameboard. A good result after all! |
