47609 Fire Fly is deputising for a HST, when pictured passing Hinksey Yard on 22 October 1985 with the 13:35 Oxford to Paddington service. It was not unusual to see a set of HST trailers being hauled by locomotives in the 1980s due to a shortage of serviceable power cars. This is the well known 'HST Generator Set', comprising a BG van (directly behind the locomotive), a full rake of HST Mk3s, and ADB975325, the generator coach, providing 415V three phase power to the coaches. Despite having seen this combination a number of times, I have only seen a few pictures on the web. It would be interesting to know how much time 47609 lost on this 44 minute non stop dash to the capital.
