47627 City of Oxford has just left the city of dreaming spires on 1 August 1986 and is pictured making its way slowly to Bicester with the 6A49 Morris Cowley to Bicester Speedlink trip conveying military stores for the MoD base. The location is Oddington, which at the time was an ideal location for photography as not only was it completely clear of bushes (not so now!), but also trains had to slow to 10 mph for the ungated level crossing. Also on this occasion it was probably the ideal lighting conditions for photographing trains coming from the Oxford direction at this time of day. The sun was gradually fading out into high cloud, giving just enough contrast but without excessive shadows. |
