47648 Goring 13 September 1986

A viewpoint that has now been totally obliterated by the Great Western Mainline electrification scheme. In happier times, 47648 is pictured just north of Goring on 13 September 1986 with the 1M03 08:05 Portsmouth Harbour to Liverpool Lime Street service. Equally depressing is that now the equivalent train would be a four coach Voyager. Half the number of coaches, and yet the number of people travelling by rail is much higher than it was in the 1980s. That's progress!
