During 1989 there was a regular Class 47 hauled Manchester Victoria to Folkestone (via Dover) train, the stock for which stabled at Ashford during the day, prior to heading back north. 47660 is pictured here approaching Sandling Tunnel with the usual five coach 5M31 16:xx Ashford to Folkestone ECS, prior to working the 1M31 17:16 Folkestone Central to Manchester Piccadilly service. It had arrived in Kent earlier in the day as the 1O99 06:18 Manchester Piccadilly to Folkestone Central. This picture was taken from the old A20 bridge, which even then had been superceded by the bridge in the background, and has now been demolished. |
