The wide grassy area on the left is explained by the fact that this was formerly the junction for the Sidmouth branch (closed in 1967). The basic platforms of Feniton station, which can be seen in the background, are all that remains of what was formerly Sidmouth Junction station. In addition to a goods yard, there was also a turntable approximately where the fence ends on the left.
