50006 Neptune approaches Moreton-in-Marsh on 18 June 1986 with the 1B56 18:07 Paddington to Hereford 'Cathedrals Express' service. One of my lesser photographed Class 50s, this was in fact the last time I saw it in action, even though it was to survive in traffic for nearly another year. After being withdrawn due to a main generator defect, it was dragged around the country a fair bit before finally ending its days at Vic Berry's at Leicester. From Laira it was taken to Crewe for component recovery, before being towed back down to Bristol, before heading north again! |
