50007 Sir Edward Elgar passes Frampton Mansell on 20 June 1987 with the BR InterCity 09:00 Paddington to Hereford 'Elgar' railtour. With a name like that, it was obvious what was going to be the booked loco for this train! Unfortunately finding a location was a problem, as the train would be severely backlit all the way, and with a high summer sun to contend with as well. Whist this view does show the Golden Valley in the background (although hardly golden at this time of year), bushes are unfortunately obscuring Frampton Mansell Viaduct, at the rear of the train. This was a relatively common viewpoint in steam days, but I have not seen any pictures taken here in the last couple of decades. |
