50007 Sir Edward Elgar arrives at Oxford on 2 July 1985 with the 1E54 06:50 Paddington to Hull service, which it would work as far as Birmingham New Street. Nowadays it seems odd that you could catch a train from London to Hull that would leave from Paddington and travel via the Thames Valley and the Midlands! Even as late as the mid 1980s this view looks remarkably tidy and free of the rubbish (to say nothing of the lineside vegetation) that would appear later. |
