50008 Thunderer goes for a pointless jaunt along the up relief line at Circourt Bridge, Denchworth, on 16 November 2019 with the 5Z40 09:06 Bristol Barton Hill to Wembley ECS, conveying six refurbished Chiltern Railways Mk 3 coaches. With no other trains around, I would have expected this to be routed along the up main, but instead it was diverted into the loop at Challow, and went straight out the other end at Wantage Road without stopping. In the still air, it could be heard accelerating away from Wantage Road for several minutes, even though that was over two miles away!
