A ridiculously easy job for a Class 50! 50008 Thunderer heads north past Worle on 25 April 1990 with an inspection saloon (probably DB999509). Just two days earlier Thunderer came to the aid of the 09:22 Penzance to Glasgow HST, which had failed at Bristol Temple Meads. The 50 dragged the errant HST to Sheffield, where the train was terminated. Whether any notice was taken of the 60mph maximum speed restriction of the DCWA allocated 50 is an interesting question! Whilst this picture of Thunderer on an inspection saloon is interesting, how much more interesting would a picture of it dragging a HST be, especially in the Sheffield area. Ah well, another one that got away! |
