50031 Hood & 50049 Defiance pass Kempston on 9 October 2004 with the Pathfinder Tours 1Z50 05:55 Sheffield to Alresford 'Alton Observer' railtour. A pair of 50s on the Bedford to Bletchley line is highly unusual, as is the use of a complete rake of Virgin liveried stock! The train worked into Victoria station, where 60001 was added to the rear to haul the train back out of the station, and on to the Mid Hants Railway. The 50s then worked the train back, with 60001 being detached at Woking.
