Two vintage modes of transport at Woodborough on 20 June 1984, one fondly remembered, one best forgotten! 50032 Courageous passes by with the 1A01 07:25 Plymouth to Paddington HST substitution. Despite having only 2700 hp to deal with eleven Mk1 coaches, instead of the HST's combined 4500 hp with just seven coaches, it was only twenty minutes late after nearly three hours of running. The other mode of transport is of course the Austin Allegro parked on the right. This truly awful piece of BL rubbish from the 1970s was badly designed and badly built. One of numerous poor British designs from the period which effectively opened the door to the foreign competition. |
