50039 Implacable passes through Pilning station in the gloom on 28 May 1984 with the late running 1A34 09:10 Cardiff Central to Paddington service, a train which had just gone over to Class 50 haulage a couple of week earlier. The footbridge seen here was demolished on Guy Fawkes night in 2016, as part of Network Rail's plan to close the station by stealth. The station currently only has a couple of stopping trains on a Saturday, but because of the ludicrous situation of not now being able to access the down platform, passengers for Wales now have to travel towards Bristol, change at Filton Abbey Wood, and then head back from whence they came! |
