50046 Ajax approaches Gillingham on 2 February 1991 with the 11:15 Waterloo to Exeter St Davids Network SouthEast service. Despite the battered appearance of this loco there was obviously nothing wrong with its haulage ability as it had managed to gain a couple of minutes on the booked time. Ajax had just been transferred to the West of England route from the DCWA engineers pool, and would spend the next few months working the route and not helping the NSE image with its disreputable condition before eventually being withdrawn in November 1991.
