50049 Defiance & 50007 Hercules pass St Mary's Crossing on 16 April 2019, running as the 0Z52 08:23 Eastleigh East Yard to Kidderminster Severn Valley Railway light engines, taking the locos back to their home depot for the first time since they were painted into GBRf colours a month earlier. As it was a dull day, it seemed the ideal opportunity to photograph the pair passing the diminutive St Mary's Crossing signal box, a shot that would be extremely difficult with the sun out. However, I was cautious about visiting this location, as the 1L50 10:36 Cheltenham Spa to Paddington GWR Class 802 DMU was due at exactly the same time, which would have completely ruined the picture. Luckily the 50s were seven minutes early!
