50049 Defiance passes Chilson on 26 October 1986 with the 1B16 09:40 Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill Network SouthEast service. Defiance was still a year away from being converted into the unique Railfreight 50149 when this picture was taken. After that unsuccessful interlude it reverted to passenger work, before finally joining the ranks of preserved Class 50s, and having a second career on the mainline. When I took this picture it was just another member of the fleet! The loco may still be around, but this location is unfortunately no longer available, due to the enormous increase in lineside vegetation.
