Sole surviving complete Class 126 unit (51017, 59404 & 51043) approaches Bo'ness station on 14 September 2019, after having moved out of the sidings in order to work the 15:35 train to Manuel. The two signals make an excellent frame for the picture, as do the steps to the temporarily removed footbridge, the removal of which has given an unobstructed view of even more signals in the background. The Class 126 DMUs were built at Swindon Works in 1959 specifically for the Scottish Region. It is very fitting that this set is preserved at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway, as the class spent much of its working life on the nearby Edinburgh to Glasgow line. Each three car set is asymmetrical, with this corridor connection at one end, and a standard DMU front end at the other. This allowed a through connection when they were working as a six coach train. |
