There was an unusual DMU working through the Thames Valley during the summer of 1987, which saw an out an back Birmingham to Reading train using one of Tyseley's four car DMU sets. Not only was a Tyseley DMU south of Didcot unusual, but both trains ran with a class 1 headcode, as they only called at Banbury and Oxford. The trains were the 1V45 09:10 Birmingham New Street to Reading and 1M16 13:30 Reading to Birmingham New Street. The latter is pictured here passing through the cutting near Cholsey on 4 September 1987. Instead of the usual Class 117s on this line, this imposter is a Class 116/127/115 combination! Tyseley's set T414 comprises: Class 116 DMS 51144, Class 127 TSL 59613, Class 115 TS 59661 & Class 115 DMBS 51869. |
