Class 128 DPU 55991 ambles along the down relief line at Langley on 6 November 1986 with the 4A60 12:00 Paddington to Reading parcels. Someone has obviously decided to personalise the filthy former gangway door by adding a 'smiley face' and assorted graffiti! Ten of these dedicated parcels units were built by the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 1959, with six going to the Western Region, and four to the Midland. The Midland units had all gone by 1982, but with one exception, the Western units all survived until November 1990. Unfortunately none were preserved, although obviously they would be of limited use on a preserved line. |
