In early 1990 there was a change to the DPU workings in the Oxford area, when the 4A17 16:20 Paddington to Oxford parcels, instead of recessing at Oxford, and then continuing north as the 4M17 20:23 Oxford to Birmingham New Street, instead almost immediately returned non-stop to London.
