This train ran from one of three stone terminals, depending on operating requirements, all with the same headcode, and all booked to arrive at Stoke Gifford at 16:53. The other possible points of origin were either Oxford Banbury Road (14:43 departure) or Appleford (15:00 departure). Of course, in those pre-gen days, If I had been at one of my usual photographic locations between Didcot and Swindon, I would have had no way of knowing where the train had started from, but on this particular occasion there can be no doubt.
