The 1D43 09:20 Euston to Holyhead InterCity service was regularly used to test overhauled Class 56s during the late 1980s. On 12 March 1987, ex works 56040 Oystermouth was attached to the front of the train at Crewe, and is pictured here, in the company of train locomotive 47586, passing Beeston Castle. It's a pity there wasn't a wider viewpoint to be had, but at least the sun was out!
