56091 & 56103 negotiate the reverse curves at Sherrington on 27 June 2019 with the 6Z91 15:24 Westbury to Southampton reclaimed ballast. This DC Rail Freight operated very short term flow was to removed recycled ballast from Westbury Yard, for eventual use on the Isle of Wight. I had noticed from the signalling diagram that the train seemed to be taking a long time getting up Upton Scudamore bank, and apparently this was due to only the lead loco powering. With 1800 tonnes, this naturally resulted in the speed being down to around 10mph at the summit! It was evidentially too much for 56091, as the train had to have an extended break at Salisbury, so that the loco could cool down! |
