A study in light and shade at Pickering on 5 June 2015. A4 4-6-2 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley begins to move forward from the stock of the 12:45 service from Whitby, which had arrived at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's southern terminus just a few minutes earlier. Initially I thought a fully lit picture once the loco had pulled forward would be better, but in the event I prefer this atmospheric shot with the smoke swirling about underneath the recently reinstated overall roof. The sunlit coaches curving away in the background adds to the effect.
