60068 Charles Darwin passes a deserted Hinksey Yard on 8 December 1992 with the 7V65 08:25 Rufford to Didcot Power Station MGR coal train. Note the recently refurbished wagons towards the rear of the train and the recently re-laid track on the down line. However, at this time the wartime yard was largely disused, with just the odd rake of derelict wagons quietly rusting away. Oxford Ice Rink can be seen in the background, its modern design being accused of spoiling the famous Oxford skyline when it was constructed in the early 1980s. |
