After waiting in the loop to be overtaken by no less than four First Great Western HSTs, 60074 Teenage Spirit slowly accelerates past the site of Challow station with the 6B33 13:42 Theale to Robeston Murco oil empties on 12 May 2009. The 35 minutes that had elapsed since I saw it just a mile up the line at Circourt Bridge had allowed the sun to come out fully, which not only shows off the loco's unique livery, but also the deplorable state of the paintwork on the bridge in the background. The platforms at Challow were still largely intact until the construction of the freight loops in the early 1990s. The bank in the foreground is now all that remains to mark the station's site. |
