In the very last of the afternoon's light, King Class 4-6-0 6024 King Edward I approaches Wolvercote Junction on 2 October 1996 with the 25th Anniversary re-run of the 'Return to Steam' special from Hereford to Birmingham Snow Hill. Despite having seen the train at Pilning, Acton Turville and Shrivenham (no sun there, unfortunately), I thought it might be worth a shot here as well, despite the low light. I was amazed to find I was the only person on the bridge - a very unusual situation for a steam special, especially somewhere this easy to get to! |
