Great Central Railway O4 Class 2-8-0 63601, pictured on shed at Loughborough Central, on the Great Central Railway on 11 May 2001. This Robinson designed loco was built at Gorton Works, Manchester, in 1911. We are used to diesel locos being renumbered several times, but no usually steam locos. However this one has carried five numbers. Introduced by the Great Central Railway as 102, it became 5102 when the LNER took over. They then renumbered it to 3509 in 1946, and then 3601 the following year. Finally it became 63601 with the advent of British Railways. |
