66618 Railways Illustrated Annual Photographic Awards - Alan Barnes approaches the site of Ashbury Crossing, near Shrivenham, on 2 June 2020 with the 4L36 07:45 Wentloog to Felixstowe North freightliner. In two decades of photographing Freightliner's Class 66s, this is the first time that I have seen one of the low geared 66/6s working a container train. Theoretically their 65 mph top speed is not sufficient for the train's booked 75 mph timings, although in practice it probably wouldn't make much difference. It certainly didn't here, as the train left Wentloog 23 minutes late, but arrived at its destination nine minutes ahead of time!
