The last ever batch of Class 66s arrived in the UK on 13 February 2016 aboard the ship Happy Dragon. Two days later, on the fortunately sunny morning of Monday 15 February, they were moved in convoy by classmate 66708 Jayne to Doncaster. Running 20 minutes early, 66708 Jayne leads 66777, 66776, 66779, 66778, 66774, 66773 & 66775 past Broken Cross with the 0X66 10:45 Newport Docks to Doncaster Roberts Road. The reason that 66779 is wrapped in plastic, is that being the final Class 66, GBRf have decided to mark the event by painting the loco in green livery, and naming it Evening Star. That sounds familiar! |
