During 1987 some Class 73s were thrust into the role of long distance express passenger locomotives, when the Class 432 4-REP EMUs were withdrawn in order to donate their traction motors to the brand new Class 442 units then under construction. 73136 is pictured racing through Winchfield station on 28 August 1987 with the late running 13:32 Waterloo to Weymouth service.
