73969 & 73966 approach County March Summit, near Tyndrum, in the rain on 31 August 2016 with the 1Y11 04:50 Edinburgh (ex Euston) to Fort William ScotRail sleeper. After spending half a century working on the Southern Region, and rarely straying very far from the south of England, these re-engineered 73s have ended up just about as far away from the 750V third rail as it is possible to get! After a decade of Class 67 haulage the West Highland sleeper has now reverted to some interesting traction, and no doubt hoards of photographers will once again head for the hills, just as they did in the days of the 37s. |
