Class 423 4-VEP 7812 approaches Salfords on 15 March 1986 with the 15:38 Victoria to Littlehampton service. Once a common sight, with 194 sets trundling up and down the Southern network, just two complete units have survived into preservation, after the last set left the national network in 2005.
