Class 93

93001 & 37608 Bretforton 17 June 2024

93001 is dragged past Bretforton on 17 June 2024 by 37608 Andromeda, running as the 0Q67 08:36 Worksop Down Yard to Long Marston. The new Stadler built Class 93 was going to be an exhibit at the Rail Live event. The loco has an impressive 6.200 hp when running on 25kv electric, but it also has a 1,200 hp Caterpillar diesel engine, as well as a 540 hp battery pack.

93004 Shorthampton 17 April 2026

93004 passes Shorthampton on 17 April 2026 with the late running 5Q94 11:04 (14:27 actual) Wimbledon Park Depot Sidings to Long Marston, conveying former South Western Railway EMU 458535 for storage. 93010 is bringing up the rear. Problems with 93010 had caused the extreme late running, which is slightly ironic as the Class 93s are brand new locomotives, whereas the Class 37s that had previously worked these trains were normally reliable, despite being over sixty years old! The weather was poor, with the threat of rain, but I wasn't going to miss this, as this is the first visit of Class 93s to this southern section of the Cotswold Line.

93010 Shorthampton 17 April 2026

93010 brings up the rear of the 5Q94 11:04 (14:27 actual) Wimbledon Park Depot Sidings to Long Marston at Shorthampton on 17 April 2017. 93004 is leading the train, which is conveying former South Western Railway EMU 458535. It had started out from Wimbledon 203 minutes late, but by the time it got to Oxford it was only 161 minutes behind time. Surprisingly, it was then given a green light onto to the single track section of the Cotswold Line at Wolvercote Junction, thereby causing a seven minute delay to the 1P32 15:18 Hereford to Paddington GWR service, which had to wait at Charlbury.
