D172 Ixion passes Summerseat on 11 July 1998 with the 14:40 Bury to Rawtenstall service, during the East Lancashire Railway's Diesel Gala. At this time Ixion was a common sight n the mainline, as well as preserved lines, having beaten the infamous BR diesel ban four years earlier.
