D400 & 50007 Sir Edward Elgar have just passed underneath the M4 motorway, and are passing Grovesend Colliery Loop (near Pontarddulais) on 8 January 1994 with the Pathfinder Tours 1Z16 06:25 Crewe to Robeston 'Dyfed Dub-Dub' railtour. The day was notable not only for the incursion of a pair of 50s so far into the west of Wales, but also for the terrible weather, which later in the day degenerated into persistent heavy rain. Here however, there is almost a glimmer of sunshine as the pair head west.
